On April 13, 2025, an event at the Djibouti National Library marked the opening of Djibouti’s second American Corner, aiming to strengthen ties between the United States and Djibouti. This initiative, inaugurated by the U.S. Ambassador to Djibouti, seeks to benefit the youth by offering access to education and resources.
During the ceremony, the U.S. Ambassador addressed key figures including the Minister of Youth and Culture, the Director of the Agence Nationale pour la Promotion de la Culture, the Director of the National Library, and English students. The ambassador highlighted the shared commitment between the nations toward education and future opportunities for young people. The ambassador emphasized that "this American Corner is more than just a physical space—it represents a gateway to knowledge, skills, and opportunities that will empower the next generation."
This American Corner, building on the success of the first one hosted in Djibouti-ville, provides free access to books, technology, and educational materials. It will also host entrepreneurship programs, leadership workshops, and cultural exchanges. The ambassador stated that "programs like the ongoing English for Success classes will not only improve your language proficiency but also give you the tools to excel in business, diplomacy, and international collaboration."
The initiative underscores the importance of partnerships, with contributions from the Ministry of Youth and Culture, the National Library, and the ANPC being acknowledged as essential to bringing the project to fruition. "We deeply appreciate the collaboration of the Ministry of Youth and Culture, the National Library, and the ANPC, who have made this vision a reality," the ambassador remarked.
In closing, the ambassador encouraged various stakeholders, including students and educators, to utilize the space for learning and inspiration, enhancing opportunities for both Djibouti and the United States: "Together, we will continue building opportunities that benefit both Djibouti and the United States, making our nations safer, stronger, and more prosperous."
