Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. According to Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, the discussions centered around the strong partnership between the United States and Morocco, which aim to advance peace and security under the leadership of President Trump and King Mohamed VI. The dialogue addressed cooperation to progress shared priorities in the region, including building on the Abraham Accords and expanding commercial collaboration to benefit both nations.
Secretary Rubio emphasized, "President Trump’s clear position that Hamas must release all hostages immediately," and praised Morocco's efforts in fostering positive future conditions for Israelis, Palestinians, and the entire region.
In the discussions, Secretary Rubio reaffirmed U.S. recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara, supporting the Autonomy Proposal presented by Morocco as the sole foundation for a lasting solution. "The United States continues to believe that genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the only feasible solution," he stated. The conversation also involved encouraging parties to engage in talks promptly, using this proposal as the exclusive negotiation framework for a mutually agreeable outcome. Secretary Rubio conveyed that the U.S. is committed to assisting progress in this direction.
