Samsung Electronics and Google Cloud have announced an expansion of their partnership, incorporating Google Cloud’s generative AI technology into Ballie, Samsung's latest home AI companion robot. This new product, set to launch this summer, aims to revolutionize home management by providing users with dynamic and personalized assistance.
Ballie, empowered by Gemini’s AI capabilities, allows users to interact using natural, conversational language. The robot will assist with various tasks, such as adjusting lighting, greeting visitors, personalizing schedules, and setting reminders. Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, stated, “Through this partnership, Samsung and Google Cloud are redefining the role of AI in the home.”
Ballie will utilize multimodal capabilities from Gemini and Samsung's proprietary language models to process diverse inputs like audio, visual, and environmental sensor data, enabling real-time behavior and response adaptation. For example, users could ask Ballie for style advice, with Ballie suggesting new accessories or clothing options.
Furthermore, Ballie will assist users with health and wellbeing, offering personalized advice derived from Google Search. CEO of Google Cloud, Thomas Kurian, emphasized the importance of this partnership, saying, “With Gemini on Google Cloud, Samsung is demonstrating how to deploy generative AI at scale.”
