ANZ has revealed its plans to provide financing for Community Housing Ltd in a project aimed at creating 156 new social and affordable homes throughout Southeast Queensland. This initiative is backed by the Queensland Government’s Housing Investment Fund (HIF), and will see housing developments in Redbank, Waterford West, and Miles.

The project will focus on creating a blend of dwellings, including one, two, and three-bedroom units, specifically designed for individuals over the age of 55. This is intended to promote independent living for seniors.

ANZ's latest announcement pushes their contribution to social and affordable housing in Queensland to 1,129 homes since September 2024, as part of their partnership with the Housing Investment Fund. Mark Whelan, ANZ Group Executive, Institutional, emphasized the importance of Community Housing Providers, stating: “Community Housing Providers play an integral role in housing outcomes through their delivery of new housing supply and their demonstrated best practice in tenancy management. We are proud to be working in partnership with a national provider like Community Housing Ltd to support the delivery of more social and affordable homes in Queensland."

Additionally, Whelan underlined ANZ's commitment to increasing the availability of social and affordable housing nationwide: “ANZ is committed to increasing the supply of social and affordable housing in Queensland and across Australia, with a target to fund and facilitate $10 billion of investment in more affordable, accessible and sustainable homes to buy or rent by 2030.”

Community Housing Ltd, a significant not-for-profit housing organization, manages over 11,000 properties, with more than 1,200 located in Queensland. CEO Danny Dracic described the initiative as a pivotal moment in Queensland’s housing strategy. “This initiative marks a pivotal moment in Queensland’s strategy to support greater housing supply across the State," he said. “The replicable model, created in partnership with the Queensland Government and supported by ANZ, offers scalable, sustainable solutions for the future of social and affordable housing across the state.”

Today's announcement aligns with ANZ’s previous support for social and affordable housing in Queensland, including a partnership announced in September 2024 with Tetris Capital and Community Housing Limited for the delivery of a large housing precinct for seniors in Cairns, along with 483 affordable dwellings across growth areas.
