Mr. Abebe Aemro Selassie, the Director of the African Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), held a meeting with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal in Dakar. Following their discussion, Mr. Selassie released a statement summarizing the talks.
"President Faye and I had constructive discussions on Senegal’s economic situation and the actions the government is taking to address the misreporting case," said Mr. Selassie. He highlighted the importance of overcoming economic challenges and expressed the IMF's alignment with the Senegalese government's priorities. "In this regard, I noted that the IMF shares the President’s priorities to restore fiscal transparency, reinforce accountability, and put public finances on a sustainable path," he stated.
Mr. Selassie reaffirmed the IMF's commitment to support Senegal, indicating a future visit by Senegalese authorities to the upcoming IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington D.C. "I emphasized the IMF’s readiness to continue supporting Senegal’s efforts, and our commitment to maintain and build on our longstanding partnership," he said.
He concluded by expressing gratitude to President Faye and his Ministers for their hospitality and anticipation of future engagements. "I thanked President Faye and his Ministers for the warm reception they afforded me during my visit and look forward to engaging with his team later this month in Washington," Mr. Selassie added.
