The governments of the United States of America, Australia, India, and Japan have issued a joint statement addressing the recent earthquake in central Myanmar. The statement, released on April 3, 2025, expresses sympathy to the people of Myanmar and Thailand, highlighting the significant challenges faced in the aftermath of the March 28 quake, which has resulted in loss of life, injuries, and infrastructure damage.

The Quad partners have welcomed commitments to temporary and partial ceasefires in the region, urging all parties to extend these measures. This would enable timely delivery of humanitarian assistance across Myanmar. The statement also commends the ASEAN Foreign Ministers for their March 29 and 30 declarations and recognizes the regional support offered to affected communities.

Humanitarian aid from the Quad partners is estimated at over USD 20 million, aimed at providing relief supplies, deploying emergency medical teams, and supporting humanitarian efforts in Myanmar. The Quad reaffirmed its dedication to proper coordination of response efforts, which includes working in collaboration with the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management.

The statement emphasizes that the Quad’s humanitarian solidarity dates back to their response to the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. The partners reaffirm their commitment to joint efforts when responding to natural disasters and other regional challenges, driven by a shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
