OCBC is contributing $50,000 to aid humanitarian efforts in Myanmar following a significant earthquake. The funds will be routed through the Singapore Red Cross and are intended to meet the immediate necessities of affected communities. Assistance will include providing food, water, blankets, and hygiene kits.

Helen Wong, OCBC's Group CEO, stated, “We are deeply saddened by the significant loss of lives and damage caused by the devastating earthquake. Our hearts go out to those who have lost their loved ones and homes. We hope our donation will help those affected in some way.”

In addition to external aid, OCBC has initiated a support program for its employees in Myanmar to ensure their well-being. OCBC's links to Myanmar are longstanding, dating back to 1923 with the establishment of its first branch in Rangoon.

OCBC's presence in Myanmar has evolved over the decades, initially functioning as a branch until 1963, and later as a representative office from 1994 to 2015. In April 2015, it became one of the first foreign banks to secure approval to operate a branch in Myanmar.

From April 3, 2025, OCBC customers will have the opportunity to contribute to the relief efforts through ATMs, internet banking, and mobile banking. All donor contributions will be managed by the Singapore Red Cross.
