The United States Embassy in Conakry has announced its annual Fulbright Foreign Student Program (FFSP) for the 2025-2026 academic year. The call for applications, organized by the Public Diplomacy Section, is open to graduate students, young professionals, and artists from abroad who wish to study and conduct research in the United States.
Funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE), the program prioritizes slots for candidates who are applying for master’s programs, though doctoral candidates may also apply. Successful applicants will be funded for a maximum of two years, with the IIE assisting in aligning applicants with suitable U.S. academic programs.
Eligibility criteria include being a Guinean citizen or permanent resident with a valid Guinean passport, having the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree, and demonstrating English proficiency. Candidates must also meet minimum standardized test scores, including the TOEFL and GRE/GMAT where applicable. "The GRE is required for applicants in all fields except law and commerce," and the TOEFL score of 90, though 80 is accepted, is considered competitive.
Applicants are expected to show strong leadership qualities, academic motivation, and clear intentions for their studies in the U.S. The program looks for candidates committed to using their education to contribute to Guinea’s development after completion. Preference is given to those with limited or no recent U.S. experience.
The program has stringent rules against plagiarism. "Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. Applicants who have committed plagiarism will be disqualified from the competition," emphasizes the policy, which defines plagiarism as using someone else’s ideas without proper citation. Proper citation must be followed if any part of the application uses information from other sources.
The deadline for applications is May 14, 2025, and submissions should be completed via the IIE’s application webpage. "We encourage candidates who are not selected to refine their applications and apply in subsequent years," notes the announcement, as only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
Further details can be obtained from the Public Diplomacy Section at the U.S. Embassy in Conakry, which anticipates supporting applicants in their academic pursuits in the United States. "We look forward to receiving your applications and supporting your academic journey to the United States," concludes their invitation.
