Siemens announced a significant investment in establishing a Global AI Manufacturing Technologies Research and Development Center for Battery Production in Canada. The center aims to advance the quality and efficiency of battery production, contribute to the reduction of battery scrap, and promote recycling and circularity. This project aligns with Canada's strategy to become a leader in the battery manufacturing sector.

Rainer Brehm, CEO of Factory Automation at Siemens Digital Industries, highlighted that "Canada's highly qualified talent and strong collaborations with world-leading universities" were crucial in selecting the country as the location for the center. Brehm added, "The new R&D Center for Battery Production will position Siemens as a key player in the global battery sector."

Siemens will invest €97 million over five years into labor, equipment, software, and ecosystem support. The initiative is backed by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario, aligning with Canada's goals to advance its national battery and electric vehicle ecosystem.

Anita Anand, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, expressed optimism, stating, "Thanks to our skilled workforce and our access to global markets, Siemens is choosing Canada for its research and development center." Doug Ford, the Premier of Ontario, noted that "Siemens’ latest investment in Ontario is a vote of confidence in our world-class workforce."

Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, emphasized the benefits of this investment, stating, "We’re thrilled to welcome this latest investment by Siemens, along with the up to 90 good-paying jobs it will create in Ontario."

Faisal Kazi, President and CEO of Siemens Canada, also emphasized the center's role in promoting innovation, stating that the initiative "will not only enhance Canada’s competitiveness in the global battery market but also contribute to the country’s economic growth."
