Thousands of Mongolians visit the United States annually for various purposes, such as vacation, work, or study. In light of this, the U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar has issued guidance to ensure travelers adhere to U.S. immigration laws to avoid severe repercussions.
“The choice is clear – follow the law,” stated Richard L. Buangan, U.S. Ambassador to Mongolia. According to him, President Trump is committed to enforcing U.S. immigration laws to maintain the country's safety, strength, and prosperity. Violation of these laws could result in loss of future visa eligibility and could negatively impact other Mongolians seeking to visit the U.S.
Ambassador Buangan also highlighted the risks of overstaying a visa or working illegally on a tourist visa. Such actions are punishable offenses that can lead to consequences like jail time, deportation, and permanent bans from reentering the United States. "If you know someone who is in the United States illegally, the best thing you can do for them is encourage them to leave now before they are caught," he added.
The press release also emphasizes that U.S. visa fraud has serious implications. The U.S. visa process is described as highly secure, yet some individuals engage in fraud through false documentation and misrepresentation. Such activities will result in severe penalties and will restrict future visa applications. "Individuals who have always been honest during the visa process stand a substantially better chance of obtaining a visa for lawful travel to the U.S.," the statement advises.
President Trump’s administration, as conveyed by Ambassador Buangan, is holding everyone accountable, including those assisting illegal immigration. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced new visa restrictions targeting foreign officials, including those in immigration, customs, and port authority roles, who do not take measures to curb illegal immigration. This is an extension of restrictions already applied to those in the transportation and tourism sectors.
The guidance concludes by emphasizing the importance of responsible travel. Being informed about U.S. immigration laws and adhering to them ensures positive outcomes for Mongolian travelers and their communities. "Travel responsibly to the U.S. by knowing the rules before you go and following them throughout your travels," the release advises.
