Samsung Electronics has introduced its newest Onyx cinema LED screen model during CinemaCon 2025. This marks a further advancement in cinema display technology, with Samsung continuing to build on its legacy since 2017. The company aims to address evolving theater requirements globally with advancements in picture quality, reliability, and screen scalability.

Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, stated: "The cinema industry is shifting its focus towards delivering a more immersive and visually captivating experience. With Onyx, Samsung delivers not only the highest-quality visuals but also the flexibility that allows theaters to redefine the movie-going experience and cater to evolving audience expectations."

Samsung Onyx has been recognized as the first DCI-certified cinema LED display. It offers features like true black levels, infinite contrast, and accurate color reproduction, accommodating frame rates up to 4K 120Hz. The screen comes in four standard sizes and offers flexible scaling options, which means theaters can utilize available space effectively without sacrificing image quality.

The Onyx LED screens are suited to both scope (2.39:1) and flat (1.85:1) aspect ratios, maintaining content integrity even in scaled formats. Achieving peak brightness levels of 300 nits, Onyx promises intensively detailed shadows and vibrant highlights, overcoming the dimness issues of traditional projectors in larger spaces.

Beyond movies, Onyx supports alternative content like live sports and corporate presentations, enhancing theater offerings. A 10-year warranty, the first in cinema LED, provides a reliable investment for theaters alongside an auto calibration solution for maintaining optimal picture quality.

Seamless integration with Dolby, GDC media servers, and audio systems, including Dolby Atmos and HARMAN’s JBL, further positions Onyx as a premier choice for theaters worldwide.

Recently, the Pathé Palace in Paris installed Samsung's technology. Laure de Boissard, Managing Director of Pathé Cinéma France, praised the screen's ability to deliver stunning visuals and excellent brightness.

Samsung's partnership with Pixar Animation Studios for HDR mastering of films like "Elemental," "Inside Out 2," and "Elio" exemplifies the push for cinema innovation. Dominic Glynn of Pixar noted: "At Pixar, we believe cinema can be a grand, shared experience... The ONYX screen technology delivers astonishing brightness, clarity, and color — an image so clear and uniform it elevates every moment of the story."

CinemaCon 2025 from March 31 to April 3 in Las Vegas provides an opportunity for attendees to experience Onyx's capabilities firsthand at Samsung’s booth at Caesars Palace.
