The Embassies of France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Delegation of the European Union have expressed grave concern regarding reports of First Vice President Machar being placed under house arrest.

In a joint statement, they urged President Kiir to reverse this action to prevent any further escalation. The statements emphasized that First Vice President Machar’s role in the government is established under Article 1.7.2 of the 2018 Peace Agreement, known as the R-ARCSS.

The embassies also called on President Kiir and leaders with influence over armed groups to command an immediate ceasefire.

"We impress upon leaders of all parties the urgent need to engage without delay in direct dialogue, and demonstrate the sincerity of their assertions that they are working for peace," the statement concluded.
