Ornsaran Pomme Manuamorn recently shared insights into her work in sustainable financing and green finance. Manuamorn, who began her career in weather insurance, has developed expertise in climate change and climate finance over the years. This progression, she believes, provides a strong foundation for ventures in sustainable finance.
Discussing Thailand's long-term economic growth and environmental goals, Manuamorn emphasized the importance of sustainable investment. "Thailand successfully navigated a complex global environment and maintained macroeconomic stability following the COVID-19 pandemic. But to achieve its high-income aspiration, Thailand needs to scale up investment in sustainable activities that simultaneously deliver economic, social, and environmental outcomes," she said.
For Thailand to address climate change effectively, significant investments are needed in mitigation and adaptation projects. Manuamorn highlighted the necessity for the financial sector to play an active role in mobilizing and allocating capital to close the investment gap. She mentioned the inclusivity and accessibility of sustainable financing mechanisms for vulnerable groups as crucial aspects.
Currently, Manuamorn engages in numerous activities related to sustainable finance rather than isolated projects. She remarked on Thailand's progress in this domain, stating: "Thailand has made strong progress on the sustainable finance agenda and has put in place many key ingredients for a sustainable finance ecosystem."
On the evolving role of women in financial leadership, Manuamorn acknowledged the contribution of women leaders in finance. She advocated for an inclusive environment to enable professional growth, emphasizing the importance of mentorship and networking: "Women leaders are prominent in many fields of finance, including sustainable finance."
Lastly, when asked about women who have inspired her, Manuamorn expressed gratitude for the numerous talented and supportive women she has encountered throughout her career. She said, "I have been blessed throughout my career to have so many talented and kind women as my mentors, colleagues, and friends."
