The U.S. Embassy in N'Djamena has announced the suspension of all routine visa services starting March 25, 2025. This includes nonimmigrant visas for a wide range of categories such as tourists, business travelers, students, and exchange visitors. Affected applicants have been informed about their appointment cancellations. The Embassy will provide updates on its website regarding the resumption of appointment scheduling and will contact impacted applicants when they can reschedule. Diplomatic and official visa applications, including categories A-1, A-2, G-1, G-2, G-4, C-2, and C-3, will continue to be processed.
The Embassy has further addressed the situation through a series of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). One question raised was whether appointments can be scheduled after 90 days. The response was, "At this time, no visa appointments can be scheduled at U.S. Embassy N’Djamena. We will update our website when appointment scheduling resumes and inform applicants directly when they can reschedule."
Regarding the rationale behind the cancellations, the Department of State emphasized its commitment to maintaining "the highest standards for U.S. national security and public safety," noting that a review and evaluation of existing screening and vetting procedures are currently underway worldwide.
