BlackRock, Inc. has announced the nomination of Gregory J. Fleming and Kathleen Murphy to its Board of Directors. Fleming, the CEO of Rockefeller Capital Management, and Murphy, the former President of Personal Investing at Fidelity Investments, are up for election as independent directors at BlackRock's 2025 Annual Meeting of Shareholders.
Laurence D. Fink, Chairman and CEO of BlackRock, remarked, “Greg and Kathy have built incredible careers in financial services and wealth management, and the experience and expertise they bring will be invaluable to BlackRock as we seek to continue our momentum in delivering for clients."
Fink commended Fleming as "an accomplished financial executive, and also an entrepreneur," highlighting his leadership in growing Rockefeller Capital Management into a diversified platform. He noted, "His proven track record in building and scaling this business ensures that he will provide a differentiated perspective."
Regarding Murphy, Fink stated, "Kathy brings a deep understanding of the needs of individual investors, especially those saving for retirement... she will add immediate value to the BlackRock Board."
Marco Antonio Slim Domit, a Board member since 2011, will not be seeking re-election. BlackRock expressed appreciation for his contributions, stating, "Tony’s service was defined by his ability to leverage his experience in investment across regions to offer keen insights that improved the Board’s decision-making and, ultimately, BlackRock itself."
The Board's independent directors have also requested Murry S. Gerber to stand for re-election and continue as Lead Independent Director for another year, a request Mr. Gerber has agreed to.
Over the past year, BlackRock has completed several transactions, including the Global Infrastructure Partners acquisition and the Preqin transaction, and announced the planned acquisition of HPS Investment Partners. In light of these activities, the Board cited the importance of having Gerber remain as Lead Independent Director.
BlackRock's Board will consist of 18 members, including 15 independent directors, assuming all nominees are voted in. This reflects BlackRock's strategy to ensure deep industry expertise and diverse perspectives to foster growth.
Gregory J. Fleming's career includes roles as President of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and Morgan Stanley Investment Management, and previously as President and COO of Merrill Lynch. Kathleen Murphy's background includes leadership at Fidelity Investments and prior roles at Voya Financial and Aetna.
