The United States is intensifying efforts to enforce immigration laws under the Trump Administration. President Trump has emphasized that illegal entry, visa fraud, and overstaying visas will result in severe consequences such as imprisonment, deportation, and permanent bans on future U.S. visas.

Daniel Koski, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, conveyed this message strongly: "If you try to enter the United States illegally...you will face serious penalties." He urged those with family or friends in the U.S. illegally to advise them to return home.

Significant measures have been taken to strengthen border security. In February 2025 alone, illegal border crossings decreased by 94% compared to February 2024. Arrests of individuals who crossed borders illegally rose by 627%. The administration's stance is clear: "If you try to cross a U.S. border or remain in the United States illegally, you will be caught."

Visa fraud remains a critical concern for U.S. authorities. Koski warned against using fake documents or lying on applications: "These are examples of visa fraud...you will be punished." Nonimmigrant visas are intended for temporary visits only; violations could lead to permanent bans from entering the country.

Additionally, potential migrants are cautioned about the dangers of attempting illegal entry into the United States due to risks posed by criminal groups and human traffickers.

The U.S. government is also targeting those facilitating illegal immigration, including smugglers and foreign officials who do not cooperate with enforcement efforts. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced new visa restrictions for non-compliant foreign officials.

Koski concluded with a stark warning about the risks associated with illegal immigration: "You could lose your life...or end up with a record that damages your future." He stressed adherence to legal processes as essential for safety and future prospects.
