Siemens has solidified its position as a leading force in the field of computer technology, ranking fifth among the top 20 patent applicants at the European Patent Office (EPO) for 2024. This category, which includes artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning and pattern recognition, saw Siemens increase its share of patent applications to approximately 25 percent. This marks a significant growth of 60 percent over the past five years.

The company's focus on research and development highlights its leadership in industrial AI and software. Siemens aims to bridge the real and digital worlds by making AI applicable across various industries. Their solutions include intelligent data analysis and simulations using digital twins to enhance efficiency in production, energy supply, mobility, and infrastructure.

Siemens is advancing its innovation capabilities through the ONE Tech Company program. By investing strategically in core technologies and establishing Foundational Technologies as a unit to scale these innovations, Siemens continues to strengthen its role as a technology leader. In fiscal year 2024, their investment in research and development rose to 6.3 billion euros from 6.1 billion euros in the previous year.

Globally, Siemens holds 41,700 granted patents. In fiscal year 2024 alone, Siemens employees submitted about 5,300 invention disclosures worldwide—equating to roughly 24 inventions per day based on a standard work year of 220 days. The company employs around 53,000 individuals in research and development across 50 countries, with approximately 13,800 based in Germany.
