Ambassador Bryan D. Hunt recently addressed the Inaugural Country Cooperation Meeting, highlighting the partnership between Sierra Leone and the United States. The meeting marked a milestone in their collaborative efforts towards security and prosperity.

"Our countries share a long history of friendship and cooperation," Ambassador Hunt stated, emphasizing the shared values and mutual respect that underpin this relationship. He noted that the meeting provides an opportunity to address challenges and seize opportunities through open dialogue and joint strategies.

Sierra Leone's strategic location along the West African coast presents both opportunities and challenges, according to Hunt. The maritime domain is crucial for livelihoods but is vulnerable to transnational organized crime. "The United States recognizes the importance of maritime security in safeguarding Sierra Leone’s sovereignty and economic interests," he said, pledging support in training, equipment, and technical assistance to enhance Sierra Leone's maritime capabilities.

Hunt also highlighted the role of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) in maintaining peace and security. He underscored the importance of developing the Non-Commissioned Officer corps within RSLAF for operational effectiveness. "The United States is committed to supporting the professional development of the RSLAF through various initiatives," he added.

Over two days, participants will develop a five-year bilateral cooperation action plan focusing on key areas such as maritime security, professional development, counterterrorism, and peace. "By collaborating closely, we aim to create a roadmap that will guide our joint efforts," Hunt explained.

In closing, Ambassador Hunt expressed gratitude for being part of this significant step forward in military cooperation. "Let us continue to work together...toward a better future for Sierra Leone and the United States of America," he concluded.
