Ambassador Bryan D. Hunt addressed the Sierra Leone-United States Alumni Association Expo, highlighting the importance of collaboration between Sierra Leone and the United States. The event's theme, "Connect, Build, Expand," underscores the shared mission to strengthen ties and foster mutual growth.

As the U.S. Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Hunt emphasized the value of innovation and entrepreneurship in both nations. He noted that Secretary Rubio has reiterated the commitment to providing foreign assistance aligned with U.S. interests, including lifesaving programs and support for private sector investment.

Hunt praised businesses run by alumni of U.S. government exchange programs as evidence of their impact and potential. He highlighted programs like the Mandela Washington Fellowship and the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Network for offering opportunities to connect with peers and mentors.

"The first step on any successful entrepreneurship journey is to connect," Hunt stated. Building relationships with U.S. businesses can open doors to new markets and technologies. Once connections are established, he urged entrepreneurs to build by adopting innovative strategies from American companies.

"Finally, with a strong foundation in place, it is time to expand," Hunt added. By leveraging networks with the U.S. private sector, Sierra Leonean entrepreneurs can reach new customers and scale operations.

He recognized the role of Sierra Leonean entrepreneurs in creating jobs and contributing to economic health, asserting that their success showcases Sierra Leone's potential as a hub for innovation.

In closing, Hunt encouraged attendees to seize opportunities at the expo: "Connect with your peers and potential partners, build on knowledge and resources available to you, and expand your horizons."

The U.S. Embassy remains committed to supporting these efforts for a brighter future for both nations.
