On January 26, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of Treasury imposed sanctions on former Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes and current Paraguayan Vice President Hugo Velazquez. This action requires all U.S. persons to adhere to these sanctions.

U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents, regardless of their location, are prohibited from engaging in transactions or supporting any individual or entity listed on OFAC’s Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN) List. Violations can lead to civil and criminal penalties.

The sanctioned businesses include Tabacos USA Inc., Bebidas USA Inc., Dominicana Acquisition S.A., and Frigorifico Chajha S.A.E. Entities owned or controlled by blocked individuals are also affected if ownership is 50% or more.

For further information, refer to the Department of Treasury’s press release. Questions can be directed to the Office of Foreign Assets Control at ofac_feedback@treasury.gov.
