David Greene, a seasoned member of the Senior Foreign Service, has assumed the role of Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa as of March 2025.

Greene's previous roles include serving as Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires in Nigeria from 2022 to 2025 and in Morocco from 2019 to 2022. Earlier, he was Political Counselor in Rabat between 2012 and 2015. His other diplomatic assignments have taken him to Pakistan, Jordan, Egypt, and Vietnam. In Washington, Greene held positions such as Director of the Office of Egyptian Affairs, Director for ASEAN Multilateral Affairs, and Deputy Director for Israeli and Palestinian Affairs.

His academic credentials include a bachelor's degree in Government from Harvard University and master's degrees from both the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and the U.S. National War College. He is proficient in Arabic and French. Greene is married with two daughters.
