IMF concludes discussions in Nairobi on new financial program

A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Haimanot Teferra, concluded a visit to Nairobi, Kenya. The visit took place from March 6 to March 14, 2025.

At the end of their mission, Ms. Teferra released a statement detailing the outcomes of their discussions with Kenyan authorities. She stated that both parties discussed recent developments and assessed the macroeconomic outlook for Kenya. An agreement was reached that the ninth review under the current Extended Fund Facility and Extended Credit Facility programs would not proceed. Furthermore, she noted that "the IMF has received a formal request for a new program from the Kenyan authorities and will engage with them going forward."

Ms. Teferra also expressed appreciation for the cooperation received during their stay in Nairobi: "The staff team would like to express its gratitude to the Kenyan authorities for their engagement and hospitality during this mission." During their visit, they met with President Ruto, Cabinet Secretary Mbadi Ng’ongo, Central Bank of Kenya Governor Thugge, along with various government agencies and other stakeholders.
