The United States Embassy in Tirana has announced the opening of applications for the 2026-2027 Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program. This program offers a three to six-month non-degree, post-doctoral award for junior and senior researchers, university lecturers, and experts from academic and research institutions in Albania. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct research or lecture at a U.S. university.
Applications are open to all fields of study. However, applicants interested in clinical fields such as medicine or veterinary medicine should note that direct patient care is not permitted under J-1 visa regulations. The duration of fellowships ranges from three to six months, contingent on funding availability.
Successful candidates must return to Albania for at least two years after completing their fellowship. Family members may accompany fellows on a case-by-case basis but are also subject to the two-year home residency rule.
Eligibility criteria exclude U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, immediate family members of U.S. Embassy employees, recent Fulbright grant recipients within the last five years, and individuals with extensive previous study or employment in the United States.
The fellowship includes a monthly maintenance allowance, professional allowance, and round-trip international travel expenses. Additional funds may be available for professional activities like field trips or conferences. The grant is not renewable.
Interested applicants must submit their applications online by June 30, 2025. Required documents must be submitted electronically; late submissions or those sent via Google Docs or We Transfer will not be considered.
