Today, the United States and Ukraine announced significant progress towards peace during a meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The discussions were held under the hospitality of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Representatives from both countries acknowledged the courage of Ukrainians defending their nation and agreed on initiating steps towards lasting peace. The Ukrainian delegation expressed gratitude to President Trump, the U.S. Congress, and American citizens for their support in advancing peace efforts.
Ukraine showed willingness to accept a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire, extendable by mutual consent, contingent upon Russia's acceptance and implementation. The United States emphasized that Russian cooperation is essential for achieving peace and pledged to resume intelligence sharing and security assistance with Ukraine.
Humanitarian relief was also discussed as a crucial part of the peace process during the ceasefire period. This includes exchanging prisoners of war, releasing civilian detainees, and returning forcibly transferred Ukrainian children.
Both delegations agreed to appoint negotiating teams to work towards a sustainable peace ensuring Ukraine's long-term security. The U.S. will engage with Russian representatives on these proposals while involving European partners in the process.
Additionally, both presidents committed to finalizing an agreement for developing Ukraine's critical mineral resources to bolster its economy and ensure future prosperity and security.
