Morocco has officially acquired its first AH-64E Apache helicopters, marking a notable advancement for the Royal Moroccan Air Force (RMAF). The acquisition was commemorated in a ceremony at Sale Air Base near Rabat on March 5, 2025.

This purchase is seen as a significant enhancement of Morocco's military capabilities and supports both U.S. foreign policy and national security interests. "By purchasing these Apache helicopters, Morocco has made a significant step in investing in their security and in regional security," stated Gen. Michael Langley, U.S. Africa Command Commander.

The helicopters arrived from the United States as part of a Defense Security Cooperation Agency initiative announced five years ago. "The United States and Morocco have a long history of partnership reaching back nearly 250 years when Morocco was the first to recognize U.S. independence," said U.S. Charge d’Affaires Aimee Cutrona.

The AH-64E model, developed in 2012, offers advanced features such as improved digital connectivity and more powerful engines, among others. It enhances reconnaissance and attack capabilities significantly, according to U.S. Army Lt. Col. James Anderson.

Additionally, the Utah Army National Guard maintains a partnership with Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces through the State Partnership Program (SPP), which fosters extensive training collaborations.

Maj. Jared Sorensen noted that joint training opportunities will enhance skills: "Being able to fly and train together here will sharpen our skills and make us a more lethal force."

Currently, 24 RMAF pilots have been trained in the U.S., with further specific aircraft type training planned for full operational capability within six months.

Gen. Langley emphasized the importance of this collaboration: “These aircraft give the Royal Moroccan Air Force a lethal tool that will enable them to further our mutual security goals in the region.”
