Diletta Doretti has been appointed as the World Bank Group Resident Representative for Suriname. This role is designed to unify leadership at the country level, aiming to better support both public and private sector priorities in Suriname. The position serves as a single point of contact for accessing the full range of World Bank Group products and services, enhancing the institution's ability to address global challenges efficiently.

"Our goal is to holistically support Suriname’s development and having unified leadership to partner with the government and the private sector will ensure that we can deliver impactful results," Doretti stated. She highlighted a recently launched joint country strategy focused on supporting Suriname's long-term development vision, particularly in light of recent offshore oil discoveries.

The World Bank Group's new strategy in Suriname aims to increase employment, improve access to quality education and training, reduce vulnerabilities, and prepare the workforce for future economic opportunities. It also seeks to strengthen private sector development by improving the business environment and supporting sustainable growth in extractive industries as well as small and medium enterprises.

In addition to her new responsibilities in Suriname, Doretti will continue her role as Resident Representative for Guyana. Since joining the World Bank in 2002, she has held various positions including Senior Private Sector Development Specialist for West Africa based in Mali. Her experience spans country engagements and developing strategies for private sector development, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

The introduction of joint country representation marks an important step toward building a stronger World Bank Group presence. Suriname is among several offices transitioning to a single Country Manager or Resident Representative covering multiple branches of the organization including IBRD, IDA, IFC, and MIGA. Previously, Doretti represented only IBRD.

The World Bank Group works globally across more than 100 countries providing financing, advice, and innovative solutions aimed at eradicating poverty while fostering sustainable economic growth.
