Applications are now open for the Fulbright Specialist Program, offering Papua New Guinea (PNG) institutions and organizations the chance to engage a U.S. academic or professional for short-term projects. The program allows specialists to participate in two to six-week exchanges at host institutions worldwide on a cost-share basis.

This initiative provides host institutions with access to highly qualified professionals who can assist in project implementation and offer technical expertise. Projects must be designed by the host institution and range from 14 to 42 days, including weekends.

The program covers a wide array of fields such as agriculture, American studies, anthropology, archaeology, biology education, business administration, chemistry education, communication and journalism, computer science and information technology, economics, education, engineering education, environmental science, law, library science, math education, peace and conflict resolution studies, physics education, political science, public administration, public/global health, social work, sociology, and urban planning.

Eligible institutions include higher education institutions; government bodies like ministries or agencies; cultural institutions such as conservatories or museums; non-governmental organizations; and medical institutions like teaching hospitals.

Projects should focus on educational or training activities with clear objectives achievable during the specialist's visit. Activities may include seminars or workshops delivery; consulting on faculty development; developing curricula; lecturing at various levels; or conducting needs assessments. Personal research projects are not eligible for funding under this program.

"Proposals requesting a Specialist to assist with activities focused specifically on English language...are not eligible for the general Fulbright Specialist Program."

Project parameters require that each project is restricted to one country and one specialist grantee. Projects must last between 14 and 42 days. Specialists cannot receive another grant until two years after completing a previous one. Multi-Visit projects allow more than one visit within a year but must justify multiple visits' necessity.

Host institutions are generally expected to cover lodging, meals, and transportation costs for specialists unless limited funding is available in certain countries.
