Distinguished guests gathered in Ambatale on February 26, 2025, to mark the opening of a new chapter in Sri Lanka's energy sector. The event celebrated the grand opening of the first RM Parks and Tristar-fueled, Shell-branded fuel station in over six decades.
Ambassador Chung addressed attendees, highlighting the partnership between RM Parks, an American family company with deep roots in fuel distribution, and Shell. "Today, we gather to celebrate a momentous occasion—the grand opening of the first RM Parks and Tristar-fueled, Shell branded fuel shed in Sri Lanka in over six decades," said Ambassador Chung.
RM Parks began as a small operation in Porterville, California. It was founded by RM Parks and his wife Clarice in 1969. Over time, it grew into a multi-generational enterprise known for its commitment to strong relationships with employees and customers. "Their journey embodies the essence of the American Dream – starting with humble beginnings and growing into a thriving, multi-generational enterprise through hard work," remarked Ambassador Chung.
The collaboration is seen as more than just a business venture; it reflects shared values between the United States and Sri Lanka. "The collaboration between RM Parks and Shell is a testament to the enduring bonds between the United States and Sri Lanka," noted Ambassador Chung.
This development aligns with President Trump's vision for America as a global energy leader while also strengthening ties between nations. "By investing in Sri Lanka’s energy infrastructure, we are not only strengthening supply chains but also advancing the ties that bind our two nations," stated Ambassador Chung.
The event underscores Sri Lanka's openness to foreign investment and competition within its markets. This move provides more options for consumers across various sectors including motorcyclists, car drivers, tuk drivers, truck drivers as well as convenience store shoppers seeking snacks or essentials.
"Here’s to the success of this venture and many opportunities it will bring for Sri Lanka’s energy future!" concluded Ambassador Chung at this significant milestone event celebrating international cooperation towards economic growth through innovation-driven partnerships.
