Binance CEO Richard Teng said that the recognitions received from the Hong Kong Police Force highlight the company's commitment to combating crime and pursuing justice. Teng shared his remarks in a February 20 post on X.
"I'm truly honored to receive a letter of appreciation and a plaque from the Hong Kong Police Force on behalf of #Binance," said Teng. "This recognition highlights our commitment to combating virtual asset-related crimes and upholding justice in our community."
According to a post on Binance's website, Teng met with Raymond Lam Cheuk Ho, Chief Superintendent of the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) of the Hong Kong Police, to discuss enhancing collaboration between Binance and the law enforcement agency. During this meeting, Lam presented a plaque and letter as tokens of appreciation for Binance's efforts in addressing digital asset-related crimes over recent years. Teng expressed enthusiasm about continuing the close relationship with the Hong Kong Police Force and other global law enforcement agencies to promote safety and security within the digital asset ecosystem.
Last year, Binance was awarded a Merit Award in the banking and finance category at Hong Kong's Cyber Security Professional Awards due to its collaboration with local law enforcement agencies in tackling cybercrime. According to another post on Binance's website, during this ceremony, Binance was the sole Web3 industry company honored by Hong Kong law enforcement. A representative from the Hong Kong Police Force said in a statement shared by Binance: "We believe it is crucial to increase cooperation with stakeholders in the industry and strengthen the effectiveness of law enforcement to combat crime through resource sharing, intelligence exchange, and talent cultivation."
In 2023, according to another post on Binance's website, Binance participated in the Commercial Crime Advanced Course organized by the Hong Kong Police Force Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB). Over 40 members of the police force attended alongside representatives from organizations such as the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and Securities and Futures Commission (SFC). The course focused on discussing crime trends and advanced investigative techniques related to digital assets. Members of Binance's investigations team delivered a lecture on digital asset investigations and public-private sector collaboration.
Teng joined Binance in August 2021. Prior to this role, he served as CEO of Abu Dhabi Global Market’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority (ADGM), chief regulatory officer at Singapore Exchange (SGX), and director of corporate finance at Singapore’s Monetary Authority. He assumed his position as CEO of Binance in November 2023.
