Siemens is set to donate cogeneration units to Ukraine as part of its broader rebuilding initiatives and global decarbonization strategy. The company aims for a 90 percent reduction in emissions from its operations by 2030. Recently, a cogeneration unit in Frankfurt, Germany, was replaced due to capacity expansions and will now be repurposed for use in Ukraine, where it is greatly needed. Siemens plans additional similar donations.

Veronika Bienert, a member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG responsible for Siemens Real Estate and Eastern Europe, stated: “Our commitment is driven by our ambitious decarbonization targets and our high aspirations in the area of social responsibility. This first donation is a blueprint that we can now use also for donations of larger cogeneration units to Ukraine.” She added that such measures contribute to transforming energy infrastructure while alleviating the distress caused by extensive damage to Ukraine's infrastructure.

In planning and delivering the donated unit, Siemens collaborates with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and Stiftung Technisch Helfen Weltweit (Stiftung THW). An essential aspect of this project was determining an appropriate use and location for the unit in Ukraine. Launched as a long-term charitable initiative by Siemens Real Estate with GIZ and Stiftung THW, the project's core aim is sustainable humanitarian assistance.

Since March 2022, Siemens has supported Ukrainian families within the country and refugees through various humanitarian efforts. Globally, Siemens AG and Siemens Healthineers have contributed over €12 million via Siemens Caring Hands e.V. towards projects aiding Ukraine. To date, more than 140 projects with over 71 partners have been implemented.
