The application period for the 2025 Health Access Hero awards has commenced. Sun Life U.S. and its dental business, DentaQuest, annually honor organizations and individuals who enhance health equity in their communities by improving access to care and health outcomes. The awards focus on areas such as oral health, diabetes, obesity prevention, nutrition education, awareness, treatment, and access.
Ed Milano, vice president of Marketing and client experience officer at Sun Life U.S., stated: "The Health Access Hero awards are designed to support initiatives that are making an impact at the community level, addressing challenges people experience when it comes to access to care." He emphasized the various obstacles faced by communities including transportation issues, out-of-pocket costs, and healthcare workforce shortages.
The Health Access Hero awards offer two paths: grants for innovative health programs at community organizations and recognition of individuals making significant impacts in their communities. Recognized individuals receive a $10,000 donation for a charity of their choice. Since inception, the program has provided over $3 million in grants and acknowledged more than 125 individuals nationwide.
