The 44th annual Joint Exercise Cobra Gold 2025 is set to commence on February 25 and will continue until March 7 in Thailand. This exercise, a significant event in the Indo-Pacific region, highlights the strategic alliance between Thailand and the United States. The U.S. has expressed gratitude to Thailand for hosting this important training exercise.
Cobra Gold stands as the largest joint and combined exercise in the region, showcasing strong cooperative relationships with participating allies and partners. It aims to build interoperability, establish multilateral cooperative arrangements, and advance common interests to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific.
This year's iteration will focus on enhancing capabilities for planning and conducting combined operations, fostering relationships among nations, and improving interoperability across various domains. It also addresses responses to large-scale natural disasters and cybersecurity threats.
The exercise symbolizes the longstanding U.S.-Thai defense alliance and reflects a commitment to addressing security challenges in the Indo-Pacific together. Participating nations have collaborated on rescue missions, disaster recovery efforts, and other regional crises.
Three primary events will take place during Cobra Gold 2025: a command-and-control exercise, humanitarian civic assistance projects, and field training exercises designed to enhance interoperability and strengthen regional ties. Approximately 30 nations are expected to participate either directly or as observers, with around 3,200 U.S. personnel involved.
The Royal Thai Armed Forces have invited media representatives to attend several key events throughout the exercise period. These include an opening ceremony on February 25 at Ruam Roeng Chai Club yard in Nakhon Ratchasima province; a humanitarian assistance demonstration on February 27 in Chachoengsao province; non-combatant evacuation operations on February 28 at Air Squadron 101; an amphibious exercise on March 3 in Chonburi province; a building handover ceremony on March 5 at Nong Nok Khian Samakkhi School; and a live-fire exercise along with the closing ceremony on March 7 at Tactical Training Field in Nakhon Ratchasima province.
