The U.S. Embassy in Lima, Peru, has partnered with the White House Historical Association to celebrate Presidents’ Day by participating in the fourth annual Presidents’ Day Wreath Laying. This event involves placing wreaths at presidential statues worldwide to honor American presidents' history and leadership.

U.S. Ambassador to Peru, Stephanie Syptak-Ramnath, laid a wreath at Parque Washington in front of the 1922 monument of President George Washington. This act not only commemorates Washington's legacy but also anticipates the bicentennial celebration of diplomatic relations between the United States and Peru. President Washington's leadership inspired independence movements across the Americas over two centuries ago.

“These wonderful wreath laying ceremonies are a testament to the impact United States presidents have had on other nations and demonstrates the cultural and personal ties they have left behind in these countries,” stated Stewart McLaurin, president of the White House Historical Association.

The tradition began in 2022 when a wreath was placed at Abraham Lincoln’s statue by the U.S. Consulate in Edinburgh, Scotland. Since then, it has expanded to include countries such as England, Scotland, Peru, Ireland, Canada, Greece, and Mexico.

The wreath placements serve as reminders of American presidents' enduring connections with international counterparts.

The White House Historical Association was established in 1961 by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy to restore and preserve the Executive Mansion's legacy. The nonprofit organization has contributed over $115 million towards this mission through private resources.
