Serving as the 72nd Secretary of State, Marco Rubio has outlined the key priorities for the Department of State under President Trump's administration. Rubio emphasizes a foreign policy guided by core national interests, focusing on safety, strength, and prosperity.
Rubio states, "Every dollar we spend, every program we fund, and every policy we pursue must be justified with the answer to three simple questions: Does it make America safer? Does it make America stronger? Does it make America more prosperous?"
The department plans to enhance its operations by shifting priorities and eliminating certain practices. A primary focus will be on curbing mass migration and securing borders. The State Department will adjust its diplomatic relations to prioritize border security and address illegal migration issues.
In terms of internal policies, performance and merit will be rewarded within the department. An executive order from President Trump aims to remove "DEIA" requirements across government agencies. This directive will be strictly adhered to within the State Department.
Rubio also calls for a return to traditional diplomacy by moving away from divisive political and cultural causes. He notes that this shift is necessary for pragmatic foreign policy collaboration with other nations.
Addressing censorship concerns, Rubio asserts that efforts against malign propaganda should not lead to suppressing information or censoring Americans. "While we will combat genuine enemy propaganda," he says, "we will do so only with the fundamental truth that America is a great and just country."
Environmental policies are also set for revision. The department intends to support environmental protections while aiding President Trump in reestablishing American energy dominance.
Summarizing these objectives, Rubio expresses his commitment to empowering diplomats in their mission: "Amid today’s reemerging great power rivalry, I will empower our talented diplomatic corps to advance our mission to make America safer, stronger, and more prosperous."
