The Cultural Affairs Office has announced the selection of Senegalese participants for academic exchange programs sponsored by the United States Government under the Fulbright Program. These programs provide opportunities for university professors and younger scholars from Senegal to engage in research and study at American universities.

Under the African Senior Research Scholar program, university professors can pursue research projects at American institutions. The Junior Staff Development program allows younger scholars to study for advanced degrees such as an M.A. or Ph.D. The Hubert H. Humphrey North-South Fellowship enables participants to combine academic work with practical internships, though not towards a degree.

The office also supports American scholars conducting research in Senegal through the Fulbright Researcher Program and assists unaffiliated American researchers with inquiries about Senegal.

Special study tours of the United States are organized through the International Visitor and Young African Leader programs, offering official guests a chance to exchange views with their American counterparts.

The Fulbright African Research Scholar Program (ARSP), funded by the U.S. Department of State, offers two types of grants: Research Grants and Program and Curriculum Development Grants. These grants allow African university faculty or professionals to conduct research in any academic discipline at U.S. institutions starting between August 2026 and March 2027.

Research Grants last from three to nine months and require applicants to hold a doctorate or equivalent terminal degree. Preference is given to those with significant teaching experience and a scholarly record.

Program and Curriculum Development Grants range from three to five months, targeting less experienced faculty or administrators who may not have recent access to developments in their fields. Applicants must hold at least a master’s degree.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program offers mid-career professionals a year of professional development at a U.S. university in fields like economic development, law, human rights, and food security.

Applications are now open for the Fulbright Foreign Student program for 2026, which provides scholarships for a two-year master’s degree at a U.S. university. Eligible candidates must be Senegalese citizens residing in Senegal with strong English skills and an academic background including a master’s degree or its equivalent.

Applications close on March 8, 2025, with TOEFL, GRE, GMAT tests offered to preselected candidates before final selections are made by the Washington D.C. Fulbright committee.
