President Donald J. Trump has signed an Executive Order addressing human rights violations in South Africa. This move follows the country's recent land confiscation act, which allows for the seizure of property from ethnic minority descendants of settler groups without compensation.
The United States will halt aid and assistance to South Africa as long as it supports "bad actors" globally and permits violent attacks on minority farmers. Additionally, a plan will be established to resettle those discriminated against in South Africa as refugees.
Trump emphasized his commitment to holding South Africa accountable, citing its accusations against Israel in the International Court of Justice following terrorist attacks on October 7th and its strengthened ties with Iran.
The Expropriation Act is highlighted as enabling the seizure of agricultural property from ethnic minorities without compensation, alongside other policies that undermine equal opportunities and fuel violence against certain landowners.
President Trump stated: “South Africa is confiscating land, and treating certain classes of people very badly […] I will be cutting off all future funding to South Africa until a full investigation of this situation has been completed!”
The administration's stance aligns with Trump's America First agenda, reinforcing a commitment to human rights by condemning abuses unequivocally.
