The U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Congo is inviting applications for the Fulbright scholarship for the 2026-2027 academic year. The application period opens on February 15, 2025, and closes on May 15, 2025.

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program is an initiative funded by the U.S. Department of State and managed by the Institute of International Education in New York. Launched in 1946 by Senator William J. Fulbright, this program aims to foster educational exchange between Americans and citizens from over 150 countries worldwide.

The scholarship enables Congolese students to pursue a master’s degree at an American university, covering tuition fees, books, equipment, travel expenses, a monthly stipend for room and board, and health insurance. However, "funding is provided for no more than two years of study." While applicants can apply for PhD programs as well, funding limitations remain the same.

Applicants are required to adhere to U.S. immigration laws and return to Congo after completing their studies.

Eligibility criteria include being a Congolese citizen with a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Applicants must also demonstrate strong academic performance and proficiency in English. Selection is based on merit through an open competition that evaluates leadership potential and academic excellence among other factors.

Applications should be submitted online at https://apply.iie.org/ffsp2026 by May 15, 2025. Required documents include university transcripts, certified copies of degrees, and three letters of recommendation. At least one letter should come from a former professor or academic advisor.

For further information or questions about the application process, prospective applicants can email PASBrazza@state.gov.
