The United States Ambassador to Lesotho delivered remarks during a celebration of America's Independence Day, emphasizing the strong partnership between the two nations. The event was attended by dignitaries including King Letsie III, Prime Minister Dr. Moeketsi Majoro, and various other officials and guests.

The Ambassador highlighted the shared vision between the United States and Lesotho for building a brighter future. "It is right that, as close friends and strong partners, we celebrate together," he stated. He expressed pride in welcoming attendees to the celebration marking the 246th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

The speech underscored fundamental American values such as "unalienable rights, life, liberty, [and] the pursuit of happiness," which are seen as essential to national development. The Ambassador acknowledged America’s ongoing journey towards forming "a more perfect union," noting historical challenges and aspirations for improvement.

He addressed America’s history with slavery and its aftermath, mentioning Juneteenth as a day recognizing emancipation. "We have made this a dual celebration – one for America’s independence and one for the emancipation of African Americans," he remarked.

Regarding U.S.-Lesotho relations, he praised their longstanding partnership aimed at fostering democratic institutions and economic opportunities in Lesotho. He cited significant investments through initiatives like the Millennium Challenge Corporation compacts and PEPFAR program that combat HIV/AIDS.

The Ambassador reiterated support for various reforms in Lesotho including women's economic rights, accountability in security services, health improvements, press freedom, and combating human trafficking. He emphasized that these efforts are grounded in mutual respect and a common vision for progress.

In conclusion, he celebrated both American independence and Lesotho's partnership with the U.S., stating: "We work together, we strive together, we aspire together."
