The U.S. Embassy in Serbia has announced the opening of the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program competition for the 2021-2022 academic year. This non-degree post-doctoral program is available to junior and senior researchers, university lecturers, and experts from Serbian academic institutions. Participants will have the opportunity to travel to the United States for advanced academic research or to lecture at a university.
Applicants must be affiliated with a higher education institution in Serbia and demonstrate a commitment to utilizing their experience upon returning home. The embassy aims for the Fulbright experience to benefit not only individual scholars but also their home universities, students, and faculty. Additionally, it is expected that Serbian scholars will contribute positively to their U.S. host institutions.
Applications are encouraged from various fields such as Agriculture/Agro-business, Engineering, Science, Law, Government, Political Science, American Studies, and Regional or Area Studies. Given the current global health situation, applications related to Public Health or Global Health are also welcomed.
The grant period ranges from three to nine months. Applicants must meet several eligibility criteria: they must be Serbian citizens with a Ph.D., proficient in English, eligible for a J-1 visa requiring return to Serbia after the grant period ends, and in good health for medical clearance.
Those seeking immigration or permanent residence in the U.S., as well as researchers whose proposals involve clinical patient contact or those pursuing medical residencies or internships in the U.S., are not eligible.
A small allowance is provided for accompanying dependents. Applications must be submitted online by October 12, 2020. Short-listed candidates will be interviewed later in November or December 2020, with final decisions made by Washington in spring 2021.
