The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, in collaboration with local Chiefs of Police, has declared a state of emergency due to severe weather conditions forecasted for Iceland. The Civil Protection warning is active and will remain so until the weather improves on Thursday, February 6. This adverse weather is expected to impact all regions of Iceland today and tomorrow.

Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors or seek shelter and keep updated through the Icelandic Met Office's website at http://www.en.vedur.is. The storm, characterized by high winds and precipitation, could lead to significant disruptions affecting services, infrastructure, and both land and air transportation.

In response to the extreme weather conditions, the U.S. Embassy in Reykjavik will remain closed until February 6, 2025, with plans to reopen on Friday, February 7.

Residents are urged to follow alerts on https://en.vedur.is/, https://safetravel.is/, and https://www.road.is/.
