The U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, Serbia, has issued a health and travel alert as of December 4, 2020. The Serbian Ministry of Health reported 199,158 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,765 deaths as of December 3. In the past day alone, 22,243 people were tested with 7,802 positive results. Currently, an estimated 7,726 individuals are hospitalized.
New country-wide measures by the Serbian Government have been announced to take effect from Friday, December 4. Restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs, shopping malls, betting shops, stores and services like hairdressers and gyms will close at 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and remain closed throughout the weekend starting from Friday evening until Monday morning. Supermarkets and grocery stores can stay open until 9:00 p.m., while pharmacies, gas stations, and food delivery services will continue operating without restrictions every day. Theaters will also close at 5:00 p.m., while green markets will follow regular hours on weekdays but operate only from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on weekends.
Previously established measures that remain include mandatory face coverings indoors and outdoors where social distancing is not possible. Public gatherings are limited to five people unless specific facility regulations apply. Work-from-home arrangements are encouraged wherever feasible. On public transport, masks are required with passenger numbers capped at half capacity.
Entry requirements for U.S citizens into Serbia remain unchanged since August 14 for those coming from Croatia, Bulgaria or Romania who must present a negative PCR test taken within the last two days before arrival. Exceptions exist for certain groups such as residents or diplomats.
For permanent U.S residents in Serbia returning after September 18 at any time past the stipulated hour must undergo self-assessment tests through e-zdravlje.gov.rs upon return to determine if further clinical assessment is necessary.
