The U.S. Embassy in Belgrade has issued a health and travel alert for Serbia as of December 18, 2020. According to the Serbian Ministry of Health, there are currently 287,730 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 2,529 deaths in the country. In the last 24 hours alone, 17,460 people have been tested with 5,129 new cases identified.

New entry requirements will be effective from Sunday, December 20. Foreigners entering Serbia, including U.S. citizens, must present a negative PCR test taken within the previous 48 hours. Exceptions to this requirement include foreign citizens in transit with a maximum allowance of twelve hours between entry and exit from Serbia; minors under twelve years accompanied by someone with a valid negative PCR test; airline crew members whose final destination is Serbia; passengers transiting through international airports; accredited diplomatic staff and their families; and foreign citizens holding temporary or permanent residency permits.

Foreign residents without a negative PCR test must quarantine at home for ten days upon arrival and report to a designated COVID-19 clinic within 24 hours via www.e-zdravlje.gov.rs. A negative test result during this period can end their quarantine early.

Existing measures in Serbia include closures of restaurants, cafes, bars, shopping malls among others at specific times on weekdays and weekends. Supermarkets remain open until late evening while pharmacies operate without restrictions daily. Face coverings are mandatory indoors and outdoors when contact cannot be avoided.

Travelers should note that these restrictions may change with little notice. For updated information on travel advisories and health guidelines regarding COVID-19 in Serbia or globally refer to the CDC website or other official resources.

The U.S Department of State's current advisory level for travel to Serbia is Level 3: Reconsider Travel due to COVID-19 risks while the CDC advises against non-essential travel with its Level 4 Warning.

U.S citizens traveling or residing abroad are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for alerts and consult various resources provided by both local embassies as well as national health organizations like the CDC for ongoing updates related specifically towards mitigating exposure risks associated primarily around contracting coronavirus-related illnesses during these unprecedented times globally affecting many individuals worldwide today.
