In a proclamation, President Donald J. Trump stated, "Throughout our history, black Americans have been among our country’s most consequential leaders, shaping the cultural and political destiny of our Nation in profound ways." He highlighted figures such as Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Thomas Sowell, Justice Clarence Thomas, and Tiger Woods for their impactful achievements and inspiration.
President Trump expressed gratitude to black Americans for their past and future contributions as the nation moves forward. "This National Black History Month, as America prepares to enter a historic Golden Age," he said, "I want to extend my tremendous gratitude to black Americans for all they have done to bring us to this moment."
The proclamation calls on public officials, educators, librarians, and citizens across the United States to participate in programs and activities throughout February that celebrate these contributions.
