The BridgeUSA STEM Summer Camp Training and Development Exchange program is set to offer exchange visitors the chance to learn how to develop and deliver youth STEM summer camps through U.S. institutions of higher education. The initiative will provide a comprehensive experience for participants to gain skills in STEM education, program development, and cross-cultural communication.
In 2025, the program will support exchanges for approximately 12 visitors from eligible countries in Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, and the Western Hemisphere. Participants will engage in STEM research, training, and teaching with an emphasis on climate change mitigation. They will be placed at either the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) or Sam Houston State University (SHSU) where they will collaborate with U.S. faculty members.
The objectives of the program include providing around 20 exchange visitors from identified priority regions with substantive STEM-related opportunities that align with U.S. foreign policy goals. It also aims to build a network of professionals committed to creating positive change.
Program activities include an Online Climate Solution Speaker Series where participants attend sessions focused on climate solutions delivered by experts curated by the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC). Topics cover emerging technologies, eco-innovations, clean-energy innovations, and public health intersections.
English language support is provided for all applicants who must demonstrate adequate English speaking ability before acceptance into the J Visa Exchange Program. This targeted instruction aims to enhance communication skills for effective collaboration in scientific fields.
During a three-week in-person exchange at UTSA or SHSU, participants will work with faculty mentors and engage in developing action plans for replicating STEM-focused summer camps in their home countries.
