The President of the United States has officially recognized February 2025 as National Black History Month. In a proclamation issued on January 31, 2025, the President expressed honor in celebrating the contributions of black American patriots who have significantly influenced the nation's history.
"Every year, National Black History Month is an occasion to celebrate the contributions of so many black American patriots who have indelibly shaped our Nation’s history," stated the President. He highlighted the roles played by influential figures such as Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Thomas Sowell, and Justice Clarence Thomas. The President noted that these individuals "represent what is best in America and her citizens" and emphasized their achievements in advancing equality under the law.
The proclamation also acknowledged sports icons like Tiger Woods for pushing boundaries in their fields and inspiring others. The President extended gratitude to black Americans for their past and future contributions as the nation moves toward what he described as a historic Golden Age.
"I want to extend my tremendous gratitude to black Americans for all they have done to bring us to this moment," he said.
In his official capacity, the President called upon public officials, educators, librarians, and citizens across the United States to observe National Black History Month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
The proclamation concluded with a formal statement: "NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America... do hereby proclaim February 2025 as National Black History Month."
