The annual WTO-WIPO colloquium for intellectual property teachers commenced in Geneva, aiming to enhance the capabilities of IP experts in research, policy analysis, and teaching within the field of IP law. The 2025 edition was inaugurated by WTO Deputy Director-General Johanna Hill alongside Hasan Kleib, WIPO Deputy Director General.

In her opening address, DDG Hill highlighted the importance of the event as a reflection of the partnership between the WTO and WIPO. “The synergies between our two organizations have been key to supporting our members as they navigate the complex, constantly evolving landscape of intellectual property and its implications for global trade and economic development,” she stated.

The colloquium offers participants opportunities to share experiences with both secretariats and engage with international research colleagues. The focus is on exploring strategies to improve research methodologies based on emerging best practices internationally and contributing effectively to policy-making processes.

Initiated in 2003, this colloquium serves as a platform for establishing connections among WTO, WIPO, and IP experts to foster ongoing dialogue and cooperation in teaching and research related to intellectual property. Over two decades, it has built capacity for more than 400 IP experts worldwide.
