The Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) has announced plans for nationwide protests on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. The demonstrations are in response to proposed government increases in telecommunications tariffs.
In Abuja, protests are anticipated near government buildings around Eagle Square, beginning between 8:00 and 9:00 A.M. Potential road closures in the area may occur. While no protests are expected in Lagos, they could happen across the country. Historically, such events have involved roadblocks, checkpoints, traffic congestion, and physical confrontations.
Individuals are advised to avoid protest areas and crowds and exercise caution if unexpectedly near large gatherings or demonstrations. It is recommended to monitor local media for updates, be aware of surroundings, review personal security plans, keep cell phones charged for emergencies, and carry proper identification.
The Consular Sections of Embassy Abuja and Consulate General Lagos will remain open during this period. Updates can be found on the website https://ng.usembassy.gov/.
