Rohit Nepal Deputy Chief of Mission | U.S Embassy in Jordan

On January 22, 2025, Rohit (Ro) Nepal took on the role of Chargé d’Affaires at the United States Embassy in Jordan. He is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Jordan from September 2022 until January 21, 2025.

Before his tenure in Amman, Nepal held positions as Deputy Political Counselor and Counselor for Political and Military Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. He also worked as Deputy Director of the Office of Southern European Affairs at the Department of State and was Counselor for Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Amman. His overseas assignments include postings in Pakistan, India, and Mexico. In Washington D.C., he served as Deputy Director of the Office of Pakistan Affairs.

From 2011 to 2012, Nepal was a Rusk Fellow at Georgetown University’s Institute for the Study of Diplomacy where he conducted research and taught at the School of Foreign Service. His contributions have earned him several Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards.

Prior to his diplomatic career, Nepal practiced law in New York and Alabama. He represented clients in complex commercial litigation with New York law firms before working with the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Alabama on civil rights cases across state and federal courts nationwide.

Nepal holds a B.A. in Government from Hamilton College and a J.D. from New York University School of Law. He is married to Ragini Gupta, another Foreign Service Officer, and they have two children together. Nepal is proficient in Italian, Arabic, and Spanish.
