Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan and U.S. Ambassador to Jordan Yael Lempert attended the signing of an $845.1 million grant from the United States to Jordan on December 9, marking another milestone in their strategic partnership. The funds aim to enhance educational opportunities, improve healthcare access, and increase water resource availability in Jordan.

This grant is part of a seven-year, $10.15 billion Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2022 between the two nations, highlighting the U.S.'s commitment to Jordan's stability and prosperity. The MOU represents the largest and longest agreement in their 75-year bilateral relationship.

The cash transfer agreement was signed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan and U.S. Agency for International Development Mission Director Leslie Reed.

Ambassador Lempert stated, “The strategic partnership and alliance between the U.S. and Jordan has been built over 75 years of trust and shared goals. Today’s agreement reflects the enduring American commitment to supporting Jordan’s economic stability and to increasing prosperity and security for all Jordanians."

Under the terms of the 2022 MOU, a portion of the $10.15 billion will be transferred annually to support various government initiatives in public finance, water, energy, education, health, public works, housing, local development, tourism, antiquities, and youth programs.
