Bratislava is set to host its annual Pride festival, including a march parade and related events, over the weekend from July 19 to July 21. The Pride march parade will occur around Namestie Slobody (Freedom Square) on Saturday, July 20, from noon until 10 p.m.

The U.S. Department of State has acknowledged an increased potential for violence against LGBTQI+ persons and events associated with Bratislava Pride. "In public statements, the Slovak Minister of the Interior has acknowledged threats made against the Pride march." Those attending can expect traffic detours, disruptions in public transportation, and a significant police presence.

The Department advises U.S. citizens overseas to "exercise increased caution" as large-scale events may attract criminals and extremists. Attendees are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings and practice situational awareness at all times.

Attendees should also remain alert in areas frequented by tourists, including venues popular among LGBTQI+ persons. They should stay informed about spontaneous counter-protests and avoid altercations or violence by moving to a safe location if necessary. Setting a predetermined meeting point with friends or family is recommended in case of separation.

For assistance, individuals can enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for security messages and easier location during emergencies. The U.S. Embassy in Slovakia is available at Hviezdoslavovo Namestie 4-5 in Bratislava for contact during business hours or through an after-hours emergency number for U.S. citizens.

For further information or assistance from Consular Affairs in Washington D.C., contact numbers are provided for calls within the United States and Canada or from other countries during specified hours.

Additional updates can be followed on Twitter and Facebook through the embassy's social media channels.
